Raub Australian Gold Mining Sdn Bhd v Mkini Dotcom Sdn Bhd & Ors

Raub Australian Gold Mining Sdn Bhd (RAGM) appealed the High Court's decision dismissing its defamation and malicious falsehood claims against Mkini Dotcom Sdn Bhd and others over three articles and two videos published on Malaysiakini. The articles and videos alleged that RAGM's gold mining activities using cyanide caused health issues, environmental pollution, and wildlife deaths in Bukit Koman. The High Court found the publications defamatory but protected under qualified privilege and reportage. The Court of Appeal reversed, finding the respondents failed to meet the standards of responsible journalism and reportage, awarding RM200,000 in damages to RAGM.
